What Sheesham is, how Lignum Arts finishes it in teak, honey or natural lacquer, and why grain stays visible.
Beds and most cases at Lignum Arts are Sheesham, the hardwood also called Indian rosewood (Dalbergia sissoo). It is a dense timber with a visible grain. We do not wrap frames in printed laminate and call it wood.
Select TV units in the catalog are specified as mango. If a listing says walnut, that is a finish on solid wood, not a different species unless the page says so. When you are unsure, WhatsApp the SKU and we will tell you what is in the piece.
Sheesham takes a lacquer well and holds screws and joinery. A ding can be sanded and refinished. Board furniture with a paper grain cannot. It is heavier than particle board, which you feel when the piece is moved — that weight is the timber, not filler.
Grain is not a defect. Two beds from the same batch will not match like printed veneer. We leave that variation visible on purpose.
Teak, honey and natural are lacquer colours on Sheesham, not three different woods. Teak finish is the darker Avon grey box-storage look. Honey and natural are the lighter Nauta finishes. Tell us the wall colour before we lock a custom piece — the same timber reads very differently in a north-facing room.
We do not promise “termite proof” or a lifetime with zero care. Structure and hardware are covered as agreed at sale. Standing water, a leaking AC, or a bed left in full afternoon sun will mark any lacquer. See the care guide before the piece arrives.
If a salesperson elsewhere says every Sheesham bed is the same species, same density and same finish, ask to see the offcut. We will show you the timber in Sikar. A photo of grain on a website is not the same as the plank.
